On to the next one...

Baby fever has hit the Schabowski household! And it is strong! With all these people I know revealing their ultrasounds and bump photos, I am getting to fever hard. We are at the perfect time to start talking about our next little nugget. Cooper is a year old now, at this point would be about two when a new baby would come, and I am desperate for a little girl! So the Schabos are in the baby making business as of now.

For now, I will just savor the moments I have alone with my now toddler. This weekend was the best. I spent so much time just laughing with Coop and realizing he is getting so big! It seriously surprises me now. I see photos of him as a baby and I feel like I don’t even recognize him. He has such a big personality and can just make the most frustrating day not as bad. Those are the days I love being a mommy to someone. : )

Any tips for the second time around?

First Time Traveling Without Family

Fountains outside of the Wynn hotel

It's Chinese New Year so our hotel is decorate beautifully for the occasion.

Hi babes! I am currently writing you at 5AM from Las Vegas. I just can't seem to get with this time change yet. Such an amateur traveler. But honestly, the hardest part about traveling for work right now is being away from my husband and Cooper for this long. I am here for 5 days! FIVE DAYS!!! That is a long time.
Saturday night, as I put Cooper to bed, I literally walked him into his bed room while he was cuddled on my shoulder and just sobbed. Then any little kid on my airplane made me so sad because I just want to hold my baby, It's making me already want to go home. I may even consider cutting my trip short and taking a red eye home on Thursday.

So far, this city is so different than what I am used to. Everyone here seems to just be in a good mood. Presumably because they are on vacation, but still it is refreshing from the cold exterior of the New Englanders in the winter. And my hotel room is enormous. I feel like it is a mistake or something that I am staying here. Can't wait to update you all more later this week! :)

3 Things #12: Misconceptions About the Fifty Shades Series

In the spirit of opening day of Fifty Shades Darker, I wanted to share some misconceptions about the Fifty Shades series. Anytime I want to watch Fifty Shades of Grey, my sister or husband refuses. And no matter how many times I try to explain that it's more than a story about a sexual relationship, they both roll their eyes at me. So...here ya go!

1. Fifty Shades is a soft-core porn.

False. While yes, there are some pretty graphic sexual scenes (both in the books and movies), Fifty Shades of Grey is story about a woman who meets a man with extremely emotional and physical baggage, and she must decide if it is the right type of relationship for her as she tries to break down the walls he has put up over time. Christian Grey is a man who has been abused and grew up being taught that relationships are supposed to be a certain way, and pleasure can solely be found in pain. Anastasia fights to understand why he feels this way and be open minded.

2. Fifty Shades is not romantic and is about sexual abuse.

Absolutely false. There is no sexual abuse in this story. All of the actions between Christian and Anastasia, or Christian and any of his former girlfriends, are complete consensual and even have a contract to verify that. This is about a different type of relationship, one in which sexual pleasure can be initiated by physical pain. Not my cup of tea, but to each their own. That does not make it abuse. If Ana told him not to touch her and he did it anyway, then that would be a different story.

3. Fifty Shades is terribly written.

I think this is a matter of opinion, but I didn't find it to be poorly written at all. I thought it was easy to read and enjoyable. I've read the series multiple times and I love the way the relationship between Christian and Ana grows to something much bigger than they ever expected.

Without spoiling the books or movies for anyone, if you've been on the fence, or couldn't get past all the sexual parts of the first book I highly suggest you give it another try. As the books move on, the sexual scenes become much less important or frequent and the story becomes a mystery.

I have to wait until I get back from Las Vegas to see it, but who else is excited?!

Valentine's Day Beauty

I decided to break my no Thursday blogging rule to share some of my favorite beauty items for this Valentine's Day.

For Valentine's Day, I feel like lipstick is a must. It makes me feel super fancy. I usually prefer to stick to super pigmented lip balms to get the same color as lipstick without my lips feeling dry. Pixi Pink by Target's line, Pixi, is my absolute favorite to achieve that bright pink lip on a regular basis.

As far as face make up, I try to stick to brighter peach shades of blush to give my skin that extra glow and pop.

What are some of your favorite beauty products that just scream be my Valentine?

How to Pack for a Business Trip

Okay, I usually don't have to do this. I actually don't travel much at all for work. So when I started trying to figure out what I needed to bring for my upcoming business trip to Las Vegas, I slightly panicked and have been secretly planning my outfits for two months. My boss was very adament that we pack lightly, and preferably only a carry on. I politely let him know there is no way a carry on was going to cut it. I am a woman with many many shoes and hair products. Sorry, not sorry!
Packing for business versus pleasure is a whole other ball game. I need to make sure my clothes stay as easy to care for as possible. I decided to invest in a travel size garment steamer for my dresses that I don't feel comfortable ironing. The steamer was under $30 and then I don't have to worry about delicate fabrics with wrinkles. Since we will be in meetings for two full days, and I will be running registration on Tuesday evening, with two night events...I needed to really think of how to get the most out of my outfits. Here is my game plan for my packing list:

2 pairs of dress pants
2 dresses
2 tops
1 cardigan
1 pair of jeans
1 pair of sneakers
1 pair of neutral, close toe pumps
1 pair of neutral, comfortable flats
1 pair of heeled sandals
1 fun top (for a night out)
1 skirt
flat iron
curling iron
garment steamer

I like to have options. There is nothing worse than only bringing one option, and regretting it once it's time to wear it. My strategy for making all these options fit is rolling everything and taking advantage of every square inch of my suitcase. By rolling, I can hopefully avoid most of the fold line wrinkles, and be able to stack everything neatly.

For those frequent travelers, please share your tips for packing and traveling efficiently!! I'm desperately seeking some better ways to pack.

February Instagram Round Up

Lilly Pulitzer Shift Dress (sold out, similar)

I got my Lilly After Party goodies super fast! It is such a classic dress.

I killed my bamboo plant that I've had for the last three years. I was pretty bummed. I really need to get better at taking care of plants. I just don't have a green thumb.

I tried out a new shampoo and conditioning system by L'Oreal and it was AWESOME! You can read about it briefly here

It finally got really cold here in January, so big draping cardigans have been a staple in my wardrobe. This one is one of my favorites from the Eva Mendes collection a few years ago at New York & Company, but here is another super cozy cardi that I have my eye on.

Work has been insanely busy the last couple weeks. I wonder some days when we will ever have a "slow day".

Forever21 is hands down one of my favorite stores. I found this super soft striped sweater for under $20 !!

Hubs and I had a date night at one of our favorite restaurants, Cook & Dagger. This burger was one of the best I've ever had. Everything was super fresh...and those french fries. Life changing!

I finally got a hair cut and it's never felt better. Winter is always the time my hair feel so dry, so giving it some love felt so good.

Girl's Night! Miranda Lambert performed here in Providence, and I'm fortunate enough that my mother gets tickets through her employer for their corporate suite. Miranda has to be one of my favorite country artists. She is just one badass chick.

Cooper had his first birthday on Superbowl Sunday! And made me pull him around in his new wagon all morning.

That's all for this month! Check back in on the March round up and I'm sure I'll have some great Vegas stories to share! :)

Cooper Turns One

My little Superbowl baby turned ONE yesterday! We had a small birthday party for him on Saturday with family and friends. I'll tell you, for even just a small party, it is A LOT of work. I tried to cut corners wherever I could, knowing that there will be years where even bigger parties will be happening.

We decided on a Little Blue Truck theme. My intention was to grab a plain sheet cake from the grocery store the day of the party, and decorate it myself. Lesson learned, apparently the grocery stores only have pre-decorated cakes that you can just add text to, so I had to improvise on the decorations. What I was excited for was the store had little mini cakes which was perfect as a smash cake for Coop! And he loved it! I barely blew out the candle before he dug into it.

Having a baby with a birthday so close to Christmas has made the "what to get him" answer much more difficult. After finally unpackaging all of his new toys today, I've decided there is no way we can do this every year. It's time to think of a solution now before next year sneaks up on me as fast as this one has.

I'm thinking we will either 1) keep it super small with just immediate family, 2) ask everyone to get Cooper savings bonds that we can put in a college savings account for him, or 3) ask for donations for a different local charity each year. I'm leaning heavily towards option 3. I think it would just be a really great thing to teach him that he is super fortunate to celebrate both Christmas and a birthday and have the privilege of receiving gifts. I want him to share his gifts with those who are less fortunate.

What have you done to cut back on the endless toys kids get?

3 Things #11: I'm So Pumped For

Oh my gosh, guys...I am so sorry for having such shitty posts (or lack there of) this week! It has just been complete insanity, which seems to be the theme for my life these days.

Work has just been non-stop and a mad house, and I'm prepping for a business trip to boot. I'm hoping to spend Sunday prepping some good content for the next couple weeks, and the week of Valentine's Day I'll be in Las Vegas, so I'm sure I'll have some good stuff to share after then.

I feel like I've been running on straight caffeine lately. I literally have a coffee in the morning and have to have a second or third by 2PM. Somehow, I'm still falling asleep by 9:30PM every night! Ha!

For 3 Things this week, I figured I'd share a couple things I'm super excited about.

1. Fifty Shades Darker Release on Feb. 10th

I'm such a cliche but I loved this book series. It was super raunchy but also a great back story that I clung to like a fool. The first movie was great and I can't wait for the next. It's such a good girls night. Last time I went opening night with my best friend and my mother-in-law. Totally awkward, but so fun! And James Dornan is just...swoon!

2. Las Vegas

I mentioned this briefly, but I am taking a week long business trip to Las Vegas starting Feb. 13th. I've never been and I can't wait to see it! I will be working most of the time but should have a night before I leave to see the sights. Now I'm frantically planning my wardrobe.

3. My new car!!!

The photo above isn't of my actual car, since I haven't gotten a chance to show it off yet. But on Monday, I picked up my new (slightly used) 2016 Chevy Equinox LTZ. I've never had a car this nice, so I feel like a million bucks right now. It has all the bells and whistles and I serious feel like such a mom driving it around. It's so much bigger than my last car, a 2013 Kia Soul +. Now I have no worries about expanding our family at some point. Thank the Lord!

Any other cool things going on that I haven't thought of?

5 Work Styles for Under $50

An updated version of the fall lace up flat trend | DSW $49.95

You can't go wrong with a peplum top in your closet. I am all about functionality and this is a piece that you can dress up or down with a pair of jeans. | Forever 21 $10.90

A basic pencil skirt is a must have for any working girl's closet. I've recently fell in love with this one | Zara $29.90

I truly believe every woman needs a basic chiffon dress in their closet. I have a plain chiffon LBD that I wear to work and to weddings all the time | H&M $29.90 (On MAJOR SALE NOW- $9.90!)

Ankle pants are every short girl's best friend because you don't have to tailor them! These come in a ton of colors and prints and usually are on sale. | NY & Company $32.97 (On SALE!)

When it comes to my weekday work wardrobe, I am so practical. I rarely buy an item that I can't also wear for non-work reasons. I love my clothing to be functional, super comfy and stylish. Many people think a cheaper price tag must mean a cheaper quality item. That's not always the case! I've found a few good retailers where if you take the time to look, you can find some really good, quality clothing that will last you years.

Where are your favorite places to shop for office chic work wear?
